customers will have unique requirements. We have selected a few case studies
out of the many thousands of users of Vicomsoft Terminal Emulation products
to provide some broad-brush examples of problems encountered by users
and how Vicomsoft was able to deliver the solution.

Study 3 - Front-Ending A Host Application |
| |
A small department within a large company stores large
volumes of documentation on a Sun UNIX
system running a text retrieval application. The Sun and the Macintosh
are on an Ethernet network using TCP/IP. The Macintosh users required
access to the text retrieval application through a simple and easy
to use interface. |

Study 4 - Accessing Host Based Data |
| |
An organisation runs an enrolment, membership and invoicing
system on an RS/6000 UNIX
system. This system produced reports, which were subsequently sent
to local printers. This meant that for further analysis of reports
and production of management accounts, data had to be re-entered into
spreadsheets. |

Study 5 - Automatic Conversion of Data |
| |
Department within a large company had a requirement
to send press release documents to the London Stock Exchange using
a dial-up connection system. The documents were created in MS Word
using postscript fonts in the company corporate style using bold,
tabs, italics etc. The Stock Exchange computer is unable to read MS
Word documents and will only accept limited styles and fonts. The
original press release document had to be manually changed in font,
style and file format before it could be sent to the Stock Exchange
which was a very time consuming operation. |

Study 6 - Moving Data from One Incompatible Host To Another |
| |
A large company with a mixture of DEC
VAX and Bull
systems running on different networks wanted to use Macintosh computers
as their desktop computers but also required access to both host environments
from the Macintosh. The Bull mini DPS 6 systems are mainly used for
word processing and have large quantities of WP documents already
archived on them. The Bull mainframes have huge databases of hundreds
of thousands of customer records. The VAX systems perform newer functions
including electronic mail service using All-in-One. The Macintosh
users wanted to be able to move data generally from the Bull systems
to the VAX and in particular to be able to attach WP documents created
on the Bull (DPS 6) to an All-in-One mail message. |
